Theraplay and Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy (DDP)

Hi all,

I am hoping someone out there has come across requests by parents for Theraplay and DPP. I have a tribunal hearing coming up very soon and will be arguing that this provision is SCP and not SEP, as it is to support an adopted child develop attachment to their caregiver. Has anyone had this issue as part of an appeal this and if so whether they were able to argue successfully that it was not SEP and how they did so?

Hi - we have had it come up as both social care or health but not education. DPP was presented as to help the functioning of family relationships within the home. If it is something involving parents intrinsically then that would be suggestive it is not educational provision LONDON BOROUGH OF SOUTHWARK V WE (ALTERNATIVE PERSON FOR OA) [2021] UKUT 241 (AAC). In a lot of ways it is training parents to understand their child and act accordingly. Also would it amount to education outside the normal school day if it extends to how family conduct their interaction? I can see how it could be seen to train a child to manage emotions and understand experience but fundamentally it is a relationship specific tool not a skill that can be applied more widely...

I am not sure how helpful that is but hopefully it is of some use?
