ABA Policy
Good afternoon. Does anyone know of any LA's that have specific policies / Local Offer sections in regards to ABA please that you could share? Also any thoughts on defending requests for ABA inclusion - recent plan, up to date EP report all in place. This a lodged appeal with tribunal.

We have several of these too at the moment. Certain solicitors seem to take them. We have one coming up in a hearing where we are arguing against it being in the plan at all, but it will be difficult. The LA will need to show what 'what else' they can offer as a method of teaching to support needs. I would say in my experience you need an EP to attend and they need to have visited the school and understood their SEND offer. We tend to get counsel on these, Paul is correct that they are very tricky and they have caused real issues in our borough in primary schools. No schools want it in their, some argue it borders on harmful. We are trying to resist agreeing any ABA in plans at all, but you absolutely need to show what else is being used instead. so ELSA/OT/TEACCH methods, zones of regulation etc. I hope that assists!
